standing on one side, and me on the other side.We were both in great anger.“Never set foot in this house again!” Father stormed. With tears welling up in my eyes,I rushed out and ran along the street.I wandered aimlessly.A young father who held a child in his arms walked past me.I felt as if I had seen my childhood from another space: happy and carefree. But now .I don't know whether it is because I have grown up or because father is getting old.We differ in our ways of thinking. It feels like there was an iron door between us.My heart was frozen on this hot summer night. As I walked on,there were fewer and fewer people on the streets, until I had only the street lights to keep me company. When I finally reached the high-rise apartment block in which I lived,I saw that the light was still on.I thought to myself: “Is father waiting for me,or is he still angry with me ?”In fact,it was nothing.Perhaps, father was throwing away some of his old stamps.Perhaps he thought they were useless.I never had the courage to tell him that I liked collecting stamps. All the lights were off except father's.Father was always like this.Maybe he didn't know how to express himself. After shouting at me,he never showed any mercy or any moments of regret. This was how he always was.He has been a leader for so long that telling everyone else what to do has become his second nature. The light was still on.With the key in my hand,I was as nervous as I had never been.At last,I decided to open the door.As I opened the door, tears ran down my cheeks.I realized that the iron door that I had imagined between us did not exist at all.Love it's second to none.4Which of the following can replace the underlined part in Paragraph 2 ?Ashouted in reliefBburst into angerCburst out cryingDfell into sadness5What does the Fossil (化石) fuels, such as coal and petroleum (oil),are examples of nonrenewable resources. 2 They can also look for other resources that serve the same purpose.Conservation can be hard because it can require people to give up some conveniences. For example, cars make travel easy, but they also produce a lot of air pollution. 3 Such changes can be hard when people have gotten used to a certain way of living. 4 For example,a timber (木材) company might be able to protect forest animals by limiting the number of trees it cuts. But the company might not be willing to do this because it will make less money. 5 People can recycle paper, glass, and other materials.Industries can limit the amount of pollution they create.Governments can make laws that help to keep the air and water clean.AThey also try to keep the environment clean and healthy.BBut renewable resources can still be damaged or destroyed.CMoney is another reason why conservation can be a challenge.DEveryone can contribute to conservation in one way or another.ETo have cleaner air, people can choose to drive less and walk more.FPeople can conserve nonrenewable resources by using them carefully.GRecycling saves resources by reusing materials that would be thrown away.【语篇解读】本文是应用文。 1What do we know about the first clock?AIt measured 23 hours a day.BIt was designed by Galileo.CIt was made in the 1300's.DIt had a pendulum.C考查细节理解。根据Clock部分中介绍的“The first mechanical clock was invented in the early 1300's”可知答案。2What happened to eyeglasses when they were first invented?AThey were worn by the rich.BThey were spread by the Spanish.CThey were made in different grades.DThey were used to appreciate paintings.A考查细节理解。根据Eyeglasses部分中介绍的“By 1352 eyeglasses were only worn by well-educated,rich men”可知,最初只有富人才能佩戴得起眼镜。3What did John Harrington do to his invention?AHe improved it 2 years later.BHe applied for a patent for it.CHe designed it for his friends.DHe shared it with Queen Elizabeth.D考查推理判断。根据Flush toilet部分中介绍的“Sir John Harrington, godson to Queen Elizabeth, made the first flush toilet for himself and his godmother”可知,John Harrington和女王共享这项发明成果。 4Which of the following can replace the underlined part in Paragraph 2 ?Ashouted in reliefBburst into angerCburst out cryingDfell into sadnessB考查词义猜测。根据第二段第一、二句“We were both in great anger.Never set foot in this house again!Father stormed”可知,我们都很愤怒,父亲对“我”怒吼道:“你再也不要踏进这所房子。”据此可以判断,画线词意为“怒吼”,故B项正确。 5What does the “iron door between us” actually refer to?ATheir misunderstandings.BTheir different characters.CTheir ways of thinking.DThe father's rudeness.A考查推理判断。 结合文章倒数第二句“I realized that the iron door that I had imagined between us did not exist at all”可知,“我”意识到,“我”想象中的那扇铁门根本就不存在。 6In the author's eyes, which of the following can be used to describe his father?AInconsiderate.BIndifferent.CStubborn.DUninterested.C考查推理判断。根据倒数第二段第二句“He has been a leader for so long that telling everyone else what to do has become his second nature”可知,在“我”看来,长期以来,父亲一直是一个领导者,告诉别人该做什么已经成为他的天性;结合第二段所描述的父亲不让“我”再踏进家门以及第九段第三句“After shouting at me,he never showed any mercy or any moments of regret”可以判断,在“我”看来,父亲是个固执的人,故C项正确。7What actually contributed to the opening of the door in the end?AThe son's giving in to his father.BThe regret undertaken by the son.CThe affection between the father and the son.DThe light that was on until late in the night.C考查推理判断。 8What do we know about Comic Con?AIt has quite a long history.BIt is a popular American art festival.CIt was designed to attract foreign travelers.DIt was a comic book show at the beginning.D考查推理判断。根据第一段中的“The first comic book conventions were held in the USA in the 1960s”、“Nowadays there is much more than just comic books on show at a comic con”可知,第一届漫画书展于二十世纪六十年代在美国举行,但是现在国际动漫展不止有漫画书展。由
