It prescribes the test schedule, giving the specific conditions as required by Sections 1 and 2. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. This section applies to the capacitors listed below for use in equipment for telecommunication and in electronic devices employing similar techniques. 1) Polyethylene terephthalate (PETP) dielectric. 2) Metallized polyethylene terephthalate (PETP) dielectric. 3) Metallized polycarbonate dielectric. 4) Metallized polypropylene dielectric. 6.1.2 Related documents. See 1.1.10. 6.1.11 Certified test records 1) Certified test records shall be prepared in accordance with 1.1.11. 2) Attributes information shall be given for the following subgroups: A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, C1, C3, C4 C5, D1, D2, D3 and D4. 3) Measurements information shall be given for capacitance, tangent of the loss angle and insulation resistance in subgroups C5, D1 and D2. This information shall be presented in grouped frequency tables showing: a) the change of capacitance resulting from the tests, b) the distribution of tangent of the loss angle and insulation resistance prior to the tests and after the tests. 6.1.12 Standard ratings and characteristics. See 1.1.12. 1) Standard values of rated capacitance shall preferably be taken from the E6 series of BS 24881). 2) The tolerances on rated capacitance shall preferably be selected from the following list chosen from BS 18522). ± 2 % (G), ± 5 % (J), ± 10 % (K) and ± 20 % (M). 3) The d.c. rated voltage be shall preferably be selected from the following list taken from the R5 series of BS 20453) and shall apply to a standard rated temperature of 85 °C. 40, 63, 100, 160, 250, 400, 630 and 1 000 V. Polypropylene capacitors may in addition be given a 50 Hz a.c. rated voltage. The preferred value is 250 V. 4) The preferred environmental categories are: 6.1.13 Unchecked parameters. See 1.1.13. 6.1.14 Procedure to be followed in the event of failures at Group C inspection. See 1.1.14. 6.1.15 Ordering information. Omit the capacitor C1 in Figure 4 of 1.2.4.2. 1) Test voltage and points of application: Test point A: 1.6 times the d.c. rated voltage of 4.3 times the a.c. voltage whichever is the greater. Test points B and C: For d.c. rated capacitors, 2UR with a minimum of 200 V. For a.c. rated capacitors, and a.c. test voltage of 2UR+ 1 500 V with a minimum of 2 000 V a.c. 2) Method of applying test voltage for test points B and C: Method 2 of 1.2.4.2.1. 3) Duration of the test: 1 s minimum on 100 % inspection; 60 ± 5 s on other tests. 4) Maximum charge and discharge current: 1 A. 5) Maximum value of time constant: 1 s. Minimum value of time constant: 0.01 s. 6.2.4.3 Capacitance. See 1.2.4.3. 1) Measurement frequency: 1 kHz for CRk 10 4F; 50 or 60 Hz for CR 10 4F. 2) Voltage: Peak voltage 500 pF only.
