BRITISH STANDARD BS EN 60335-2-51: 1997 IEC 60335-2-51: 1997 Incorporating Amendment No. 1Safety of household and similar electrical appliances Part 2: Particular requirements Section 2.51 Stationary circulation pumps for heating and service water installations The European Standard EN 60335-2-51:1997 has the status of a British Standard ICS 23.080 Licensed Copy: sheffieldun sheffieldun, na, Thu Nov 09 08:14:02 GMT+00:00 2006, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI BS EN 60335-2-51:1997 This British Standard, having been prepared under the direction of the Electrotechnical Sector Board, was published under the authority of the Standards Board and comes into effect on 15 December 1997 © BSI 04-1999 ISBN 0 580 27815 8 National foreword This British Standard is the English language version of EN 60335-2-51:1997. It is identical with IEC 60335-2-51:1997. It supersedes BS EN 60335-2-51:1991 which will be withdrawn on 2000-07-01. The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted to Technical Committee CPL/61, Safety of electrical appliances, CPL/61, Safety of electrical appliances, which has the responsibility to: aid enquirers to understand the text; present to the responsible international/European committee any enquiries on the interpretation, or proposals for change, and keep the UK interests informed; monitor related international and European developments and promulgate them in the UK. A list of organizations represented on this committee can be obtained on request to its secretary. From 1 January 1997, all IEC publications have the number 60000 added to the old number. For instance, IEC 27-1 has been renumbered as IEC 60027-1. For a period of time during the change over from one numbering system to the other, publications may contain identifiers from both systems. Cross-references Attention is drawn to the fact that CEN and CENELEC standards normally include an annex which lists normative references to international publications with their corresponding or European publications. The British Standards which implement international or European publications referred to in this document may be found in the BSI Standards Catalogue under the section entitled “International Standards Correspondence Index”, or by using the “Find” facility of the BSI Standards Electronic Catalogue. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pages i and ii, the EN title page, pages 2 to 8 and a back cover. This standard has been updated (see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover. No. EN 60335-2-51:1997 E Licensed Copy: sheffieldun sheffieldun, na, Thu Nov 09 08:14:02 GMT+00:00 2006, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI EN 60335-2-51:1997 © BSI 04-1999 2 Foreword The text of document 61/951/FDIS, future second edition of IEC 60335-2-51, prepared by the IEC Technical Committee 61 was submitted to the IEC-CENELEC parallel vote in March 1996 but the draft did not receive sufficient support in CENELEC. The comments were discussed during the Athens meeting in November 1996, when it was decided to submit a draft for EN 60335-2-51 based on the printed version of the IEC standard to the formal vote. This draft was circulated in April 1997 and was approved by CENELEC as EN 60335-2-51 on 1997-07-01. This European Standard has been prepared by the secretariat of CENELEC Technical Committee TC 61. The following dates are applicable: For products which have complied with EN 60335-2-51:1991 before 2000-07-01, as shown by the manufacturer or by a certification body, this previous standard may continue to apply for production until 2005-07-01. This standard has to be used in conjunction with EN 60335-1, Safety of household and similar electrical appliances, Part 1: General requirements. It was established on the basis of the 1994 edition of that standard. Amendments and revisions of part 1 have also to be taken into account and the dates when such changes become applicable will be stated in the relevant amendment or revision of part 1. This part 2 supplements or modifies the corresponding clauses of EN 60335-1, so as to convert it into the European Standard: Safety requirements for stationary electric circulation pumps for heating and service water installations. When a particular subclause of part 1 is not mentioned in this part 2, that subclause applies as far as is reasonable. When this standard states “addition”, “modification” or “replacement”, the relevant text of part 1 is to be adapted accordingly. Subclauses and tables which are additional to those in part 1 are numbered starting with 101. There are no special national conditions causing a deviation from this European Standard, other than those listed in Annex ZA to EN 60335-1. There are no national deviations from this European Standard, other than those listed in Annex ZB to EN 60335-1. NOTEThe following print types are used: requirements: in roman type; test specifications: in italic type; notes: in small roman type. Words in bold in the text are defined in clause 2. When a definition of part 1 concerns an adjective, the adjective and the associated noun are also in bold. Endorsement notice The text of the International Standard IEC 60335-2-51:1997 was approved by CENELEC as a European Standard without any modification. latest date by which the EN has to be implemented at national level by publication of an identical national standard or by endorsement(dop) 1998-07-01 date on which national standards conflicting with the EN have to be withdrawn(dow) 2000-07-01 Licensed Copy: sheffieldun sheffieldun, na, Thu Nov 09 08:14:02 GMT+00:00 2006, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI EN 60335-2-51:1997 © BSI 04-19993 Contents Page Foreword2 1Scope5 2Definitions5 3General requirement5 4General conditions for the tests5 5Void5 6Classification5 7Marking and instructions5 8Protection against access to live parts6 9Starting of motor-operated appliances6 10Power input and current6 11Heating6 12Void6 13Leakage current and electric strength at operating temperature 6 14Void6 15Moisture resistance6 16Leakage current and electric strength6 17Overload protection of transformers and associated circuits6 18Endurance6 19Abnormal operation6 20Stability and mechanical hazards6 21Mechanical strength6 22Construction7 23Internal wiring7 24Components7 25Supply connection and external flexible cords7 26Terminals for external conductors7 27Provision for earthing7 28Screws and connections7 29Creepage distances, clearances and distances through insulation7 30Resistance to heat, fire and tracking7 31Resistance to rusting7 32Radiation, toxicity and similar hazards7 Annexes8 Table 101 Classification of pumps5 Licensed Copy: sheffieldun sheffieldun, na, Thu Nov 09 08:14:02 GMT+00:00 2006, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI 4 blank Licensed Copy: sheffieldun sheffieldun, na, Thu Nov 09 08:14:02 GMT+00:00 2006, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI EN 60335-2-51:1997 © BSI 04-19995 1 Scope This clause of part 1 is replaced by: This standard deals with the safety of stationary electric circulation pumps intended for use in heating systems or in service water systems, having a rated power input not exceeding 300 W, their rated voltage is not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances.
