The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO 96-2:1992), which has been technically revised. It also specifies the method of designation of the travellers. 2 Normative references The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. The traveller mass is taken from the R20 series of preferred numbers in accordance with ISO 3. The range of traveller mass comprises values from 9 to 20 000 inclusive. The traveller mass represents the nominal mass, in grams, of 1 000 travellers of the same type. The tolerance on the nominal mass for 1 000 travellers of the same type is ± 3 % for metal travellers and () 5 0 % + for plastic travellers.
