Cone Tolerance System 4.1 Basis of Cone Tolerance System The cone tolerance system shall be based on the cone diameter tolerance, taper angle tolerance, cone form tolerance and cone section diameter tolerance. 4.2 Cone Diameter Tolerance The cone diameter tolerance T D is applicable to all the actual cone diameters within the cone length L , and is generally selected from the standard tolerances based on J I S B 0401 according to the largest diameter D of the cone. Remark: The cone diameter tolerance T takes a fixed value for all sections normal to axis. 4.3 Taper Angle Tolerances The taper angle tolerances shall be in ac- cordance with the following: (1) Grades of Taper Angle Tolerance shall be classified into 12 grades of AT 1 to AT 12 corresponding The taper angle tolerance AT to the steps of cone lengtgs (see Attached Table). grades AT O, AT O1 or AT 13 may be used, as required. Values of Taper Angle Tolerance The values of the taper angle tolerances AT, and ATn for respective grades corresponding to the steps of cone length L shall be in accordance with Attached Table. Remarks 1. The value of AT, (p rad unit) for the grade ATn shall be the preferred number R 10 nearest to the value calculated from the following formula: where Le: geometrical mean of two cone length values dividing the steps of cone length L (in accordance with preferred number R 5.) ATD= AT, X L The values of ATn corresponding to cone lengths Li and LZ dividing the step of a cone length shall vary as given in Fig. 1. Variation of ATD within Steps ( LI to Lz.) of a Cone Length Fig. 1. L2 Furthermore, the values of grade AT O and grade AT O 1 shall be 1/10 of the values of AT 5 and AT 4, respectively. Also, the values of respective grades AT 13 to AT 17 shail be 10 times the values of respective grades AT 8 to AT 12. Remark: The taper angle tolerance zone shall be applicable to the angle between the 2 pairs of straight lines of which interval becomes minimum, and which include the straightness of two generating lines of an actual cone, within an arbitrary axial section of an actual taper angle, namely a cone. 4.4 Cone Form Tolerances The cone form tolerance TF shall consist of the straightness tolerances of generator and circularity tolerances of section normal to axis (see Figs. 2 and 3). By the designation of the cone form tolerances, the straightness tolerance zone and circularity tolerance zone shall be determined (see Figs. 2 and 3). 4.5 Cone Section Diameter Tolerance The cone section diameter tolerance T h shall be applicable only to the particular section normal to axis, in the case wheré-the cone diameter tölerance shall necessarily be reduced locally for functional reason or manufacturing reason. 5. Designation of Cone Tolerance The cone tolerance shall be designated for the basic cone by either of the methods (1) and (2) given in the following. The method of designation of this tolerance and the selection of tolerance value shall depend on the functional requirements such as the relative position in axial direction of fitting faces and contacting conditions. (1) Method 1 (Basic Taper Method) In ordinary cases, only the deviations by the cone diameter tolerance Tn in respect to the basic cone shall be designated using the symbol (tolerance symbol) of tolerance zone class in accordance with JIS B 0401. and the cone diameter tolerance zone shall be determined (see Figs. 2 and 3).
