Toughness of Split Part L a 1. Scope This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies steel split taper pins and stainless steel split taper pins having the taper of $ for general use (hereafter respectively referred to as the “steel pins“ and “stainless pins“). Further, when steel pins and stainless pins are generically called in this Remarks 1. Standard, they shall simply be referred to as the “pins“. The pins specified in the text of this Standard shall be in accordance with the taper pins class B specified in the text of JIS B 1352. 2. The pins which are not in accordance with the text in shape dimensions, taper precision and surface roughness are specified in Annex as “taper pins with split of an old type“. When fixing a pin at the same section as the bottom of split as shown in Fig. 1 and opening the tip of split symmetrically by hitting, the pin shall not be broken at not larger than 60“ in opening angle or cracks shall not be produced. Hardness The hardness of the pins shall conform to Table 1. Table I 4. Shape and Dimensions The shape and dimensions of pins shall conform to Attached Table. 5. Appearance The pins shall be free from such harmful defects in use as cracks, flaws, burrs and rust, and the surface roughness of tapered portion shall be 3.2 a of JIS B 0601. 6. Materials , The materials of pins shall conform to Table 2, as a rule. Inspection part of pin shall meet the specifications of 2. 8.1 Toughness Inspection of Split Part The toughness inspection of the split 8.2 Hardness Inspection The hardness of pin shall be inspected in accordance with the test method specified in JIS Z 2244 or JIS Z 2245 and the end of pin or the hardness of taper part shall meet the specifications of 3. Furthermore, the hardness of pin may be in accordance with any one of Vickers hardness or Rockwell hardness, but where the measured value is doubtful, the Vickers hardness shall be applied to .determine acceptance or rejection. Designation of Products The designation of pins shall be in accordance with Standard number or title of Standard, nominal diameter x nominal length, materials ( 2 ) and specified Particulars ( ). Notes '(2) The designation of material shall be the material symbols specified in Japanese Industrial Standard. steel pin may be indicated by the symbol St. The symbols to indicate class of surface treatment, depth of split, allowable value of nominal cone diameter ( d ) and the like shall be expressed as required. Notes ( 4 ) The marking of material shall be dealt in the same way as Note ( 2). ( 5 ) The registered trademark shall be used as far as possible for the brief mark. 11. Cautions in Use Cares shall be given to the following points when using the pins: (1) Position of Split The pin shall be set into the hole so that the bottom of split does not come out from the hole as given in Fig. 2. preferably about Furthermore, the length of split end remaining in the hole should be of the small end diameter ( d ) . Furthermore, when opening the split end, the angle of opening shall be kept .symmetrically by supporting the larger end side so that the pin does not move. Scope This Annex specifies the steel taper pins with split (hereafter referred to as the “steel pins“) and the stainless steel taper pins with split (hereafter referred to as the “stainless steel pins“) of which the shape, dimensions, accuracy of taper and surface roughness are not in accordance with the text of this Standard. Furthermore, where the steel pins and stainless steel pins specified in this Annex are named generically, they shall be called pins simply. Remairk: The pins specified in this Annex conform to the taper pin tolerance grade 2 specified in Annex of JIS B 1352, as appropriate. However, the Annex of JIS B 1352 is scheduled to be abolished in the future, so it should be preferable not to use this Annex as far as possible. Furthermore, this Annex is abolished together with the Annex of JIS B 1352. 2. Toughness of Split Part The toughness of split part of a pin shall be in accordance with 2. of the text. 3. Hardness The hardness of pin shall be in accordance with 3. of the text. 4. Shape and Dimensions The shape and dimensions of pin shall be in accordance with Annex Attached Provided that the accuracy of taper (excluding the split part) shall be in Table. accordance with the following Annex Table.
