Scope This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the petrolatum paste for corrosion protection to be used for corrosion protection of steel tubes, steel bars, and other irons or steels. Remarks: The standards cited in this Standard are shown in Attached Table 1. 2. Definitions as follows: The definitions of the major terms in this Standard shall be petrolatum paste for corrosion protection surface preparation material of the petrolatum tapes for corrosion protection as specified in JIS Z 1902, which is paste-like substance where the corrosion inhibitor, the filler or the like are added in the wax distilled from the residual oil after distillation, under reduced pressure of the petroleum, and refined thereafter. consistency The parameter to express the hardness of the petrolatum paste for corrosion protection (hereafter referred to as “sample“) one unit of which is 0.1 mm of the depth where the specified cone is advanced verti- cally in the test under the specified condition. melting point The temperature when the molten sample is adhered to the mercury part of the thermometer to be solidified, heated under the specified condition, and the initial drop falls from the thermometer, flash point the oil vapor and the air is instantaneously combusted with generating sparks when the sample is heated under the specified condition and a small flame is brought close to the oil surface. evaporation The amount of the substance evaporated which is expressed by per cent when the sample is heated under the specified condition. sag resistance The nature where the coated film does not slide down to the reference line when the test piece coated with the sample is kept upright for one hour at the specified temperature. low temperature adhesive property the sample is adhered to the surface of the test piece at low temperature. water-paste substitutability The nature where the sample is substituted with the water adhered to the surface of the test piece to prevent corrosion. salt water immersion test method The test method to examine the nature of the sample to prevent the rust of the test piece when the test piece coated with the sample is immersed in salt water for the specified period of time. salt spray test method The test method to examine the nature of the sample to prevent rust of the test piece when the test piece coated with the sample is left for the specified period of time in the device sprayed salt water.
