How to be a good teacher.doc
How to be a good teacherTo be honest, Ive been dreaming to be a teacher for many years. And my ideal was built up when I was only 9 years old. Luckily, I have an opportunity to study in a normal university and Im keeping working hard to achieve my ideal. In the past two month, I had been taking my internship as an English teacher in a primary school and I felt it an honor to have been given a chance to experience a teachers life. Before I take my practice, I think being a teacher is quite easy because Im confident that I have enough capabilities to cope with the students. But I feel deadly different when I stand in the front of my students. Whats worse, I had to stop my teaching to keep my class and students in order. Also Ive gotta deal with different kinds of problems about my students. Sometimes the naughty students may lead me to be disappointed ,discouraged and faith-shaked. Every time when I fall in confusion or in a loss, I will always turn to my favorite films. I have watched several movies about teachers and teaching which have moved me a lot and given me much power. Just like the films called Mona Lisa Smile, Stars on Earth(an Indian movie),and Les Choristes(a French movie). I like these three movies cause they can help to encourage me and help me find my direction and thats why I have seen them for many times. Different time when I watch them, different feelings I will get. Now, please allow me to share my feelings about these movies and my perception about how to be a good teacher. In the flim Mona Lisa Smile, there is a good teacher named Katherine Ann Waston. She used her art teaching as a vehicle to put across her opinion to the young women that women were not born to become housewives and mothers. She wanted to encourage to her students make a difference and do more things in life. I cannot agree more with her opinion, I think a good teacher should try to open her students mind to do whatever they want, encourage her students to be themselves, to become professionals in field they loved and to improve their future life. Also, a good teacher is like a good friend. He should not only provide his students with knowledge, but also help his students how to think, how to live a life, what to seek and where to go. “Theres also no textbook telling you what to think”. A good teacher must tell his students that they have rights to do what they want, to seek freedom, happiness and success. The second movie I would like to talk about is Stars on Earth with a theme that “Every child is unique. ” There is a little eight-year-old Indian boy called Ishaan. He is a special boy. His world is full of dogs, kites, fishes, pilots, robots and other things that unimportant and useless to the adults. Ishaan is so poor in his study that all his teachers intend crazily to dismiss him. One day Ishaan skipped his classes and played around the streets. Finally the school had his parents come and taken him home. Finally his parents decided to send him to a boarding school which was far away from his home. In other words, Ishaan had to live and study on his own. However, Ishaan couldnt adapted to his new school life and he gradually became introverted and dissocial. Later, an art teacher called Nikumbh came to this school, he had noticed Ishaan and tried to get close to him. He found that Ishaan was unhappy, helpless, and even self-abandoned. Besides, Ishaan is a child with learning disabilities and his story reminded Teacher Nikumbh of his own childhood because he had difficulties in learning, too. Teacher Nikumbh could feel what Ishaan had felt and he could tell that Ishaan was asking for help through his tearful eyes. So Teacher Nikunbh came to visit Ishaans parents to ask more information about Ishaan. Nikunbh found that Ishaan was a gifted painter who was full of imagination and creativity. But Ishaan had difficulties in spelling and writing, just like the young Nikumbh. After leaving Ishaans home, Teacher Nikumbh .fell in a deep thought and he deciede to do some things to help Ishaan to conquer his disabilities. On one hand, he took many examples about the famous or successful people who used to be trapped in the same predicament to encourage Ishaan and build up his confidence, On the other hand, he used his ways to train Ishaans spelling and counting skills, like drawing numbers, playing spelling games. Whats more, he held a painting contest opening for all the teachers and students. Actually he intended to offer an opportunity to Ishaan. As expected, Ishaan got the first prize and his painting would be shown in the cover of the schools yearly magazine. After a long time, the final exam came and Ishaan had made a big progress, When his parents came to bring him back to home for summer holiday, they were definitely shocked by Ishaans report and the painting shown in the magazine. Honestly speaking, this is the most moving film that I have seen. It tells me how to be a good teacher, especially Teacher Nikumbhs action. He was really a good teacher as he could find the shinning abilities of his students and help to keep and protect their own unique talents. I think that is what the theme wants to tell. Every child is unique. A good teacher should spare no effort to find out their abilities and love his students. He should encourage the self-abased students to try, to experience, to build up their confidence. He should lead the withdrawn students to go outside, to act out, to make them more active and outgoing. He should help the underachievers to gain the interest, enthusiasm, means, skills of study. He should stay with his students like friends, sharing with his kids, trusting in his kids, giving them chances and so on. In a word being a good teacher is always a far-reaching study. But Im trying to get closer to that!
