    Teaching designPicheng Middle school Lin wen 212311Subject and grade: English of Grade 7 Teaching material analysisThe topic of this unit is “Lets celebrate!”, so in this class, students should learn different festivals at home and abroad. I think itll be a relaxed and happy class. The festivals in our text book are Christmas, Chinese New Year, Dragon Boat Festival, Halloween, Mid-Autumn Festival, Thanksgiving Day. Also, we should teach them activities in different festivals. Our old friends Eddie and Hobo also will celebrate a festival, this leads to the Reading part of this unit.Teaching aims:1. Learn different festivals and the activities and activities to celebrate them.2. Learn to use right expressions to talk about your favourite festivals.Teaching key points and difficulties:1. Let students give examples to the activities of different festivals themselves.2. Give students language scenes to lead students to express bravely.Teaching concepts:1. Based on students prior knowledge about festivals.2. Teachers should spend more time on leading students to say something out themselves.Teaching ideas:Students are familiar with festivals in China. So, firstly, well have a free talk ”Do you know any traditional festivals in China? ” Then list some festivals according to students answers. After this, well learn them one by one and introduce festivals by showing questions and photos. Of course, well lead to the festivals in western countries. In this process, we can enjoy videos, interesting pictures. Simple summaries is necessary and important for students. All the above, should be given by students themselves, and the teacher is just a leader. More other festivals also should be mentioned to enlarge students knowledge. As to the conversation part, we should give students enough time to talk about different kind of festivals, as many as possible, that will be good for their listening and writing. The dialogue between Eddie and hobo is so interesting. I think students know the new words and phrases, they can read between lines. So, just lead and give them help when necessary. Students are better than we think.Teaching Steps:Step one: Free talk T: Look, its red. Can you tell me why? Yes. Because its a festival. There are many traditional festivals in China. Do you know any of them?Step two: Presentation1. Teacher presents pictures of different festivals, and invite them to say their names out. Chinese New Year (the Spring Festival) , Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival.2. Then use different kinds of forms to introduce the festivals. Questions about Chinese New Year: 1.When is Chinese New Year?What do people do at Chinese New Year?Activities about Chinese New Year: put up couplets; watch the lion dance; let off fireworks; eat dumplings; wear new clothes; visit friends and relatives; get red packets.Dragon Boat Festival: have a dragon boat race; eat rice dumplings; remember Qu Yuan.At the Mid-Autumn Festival: get together; enjoy the moon; eat moon cakes.3. Present some festivals in western countries. T: Do you know any western festivals? Enjoy a video: Jingle BellsShow pictures and lead to detailed information about the festivals students should know.Step three: summaries1. Festivals and their activities people celebrate. Read and match.2. Finish exercises on page 57.3. Add some other festivals. Childrens Day; Teachers Day;May Day; New Years DayStep four: Practice1. Pair work: Whats your favourite festival? Why?2.
